Circle of Life

and a mother looked on
with soulful eyes
at her newborn calf -
now a limp carcass,
torn and devoured
by impatient claws
and floundering teeth;
he was just a seed
she carried for a while;
a seed with a story
and a life of his own,
in this unfathomable,
self-nourishing,
circle of life.

Detachment

and the shore looked on quietly
at the drifting boat
once moored to her bosom,
while the boat nodded
to the fading shore
held by the dying waves,
and I wondered to myself -
who was attached
or detached
in all of this?

To be like the Wind

To be like the wind
is to touch everything
even without touching,
to carry a fragrance
without becoming the fragrance,
to hold something
even without holding on to it,
to make things come alive,
only to chip away at them
over space and time.

To be like the wind
is to be
everything and nothing
in one breath of life;
to move,
and to rest,
into life
and love,
knowing this -
just being here,
in this one moment,
is enough.

Detachment

detachment is
the thin thread
that holds
and lets go
with love,
as the kite
grows wings
in the open sky....

detachment is
to see joy
and pain
as two sides
of a coin,
and be
in the space
between the two...

detachment is
to see the world
as myriad expressions
of the same energy
that flows
in you
and me
without making each
my own....

detachment is
the struggle
and the triumph
of what it is
to be the divine,
in human form...
