The Call of the Ocean

and when I am lost,
I seek you out
with my eyes,
for the salt
that courses
through your veins
and mine,
for all the mysteries
that cannot be solved
in a moment
which I call a lifetime,
for all the shores
that I can never walk,
for all the rocks
that I can never climb,
for all the waves
that I can never count
or hope to catch
with my blinded eyes,
for the wild, unyielding dream
of a world that is possible,
when I feel the tug
of your restful presence
calling out to me....
beyond me, within me,
is an ocean
waiting to be explored...

They Belong to You

and when I felt the waves
rise and fall inside me,
a rhythmic contraction and release
that drew me time and again
to their unequivocal presence,
I didn't realise
they were calling out
to their Mother,
who gathered them happily
in one fell swoop,
into her large bosom,
as I stood before her
and smiled and bowed,
saying to myself,
"they belong to you."

Connection

and while I walked
along the water's edge,
I watched the ocean
let go of
wave after wave,
as each crashed
to its end
along an unrequited shore;
and I wondered
how she did that
tirelessly,
and as I sat down
and picked up
a fistful of sand,
only to let it fly
through my fingers
and into the wind,
I saw the world
of love -
of sand and waves,
clouds and sky
and a lone soul like me
upon an empty beach,
touching each other
through each other,
connected, entangled,
in an intricate dance
of worlds within worlds.

Swell

and I thought
it was time
to empty myself
with the fullness
of the moon,
until I found
my being swell
with every ebb;
fullness is a name
we choose
to adorn
what cannot be named,
what cannot be beautified -
the infinite vessel
which holds and feels
everything
to its brim,
and its ever-widening
lines and circles,
where I am reborn,
with every swell.

The Little Sailboat

the little sailboat
rides the swell
of a tipsy ocean
sprawled out
beneath
a sober neon sky.

its destiny
is written
not by the
parched white sails
of defiance
billowing and
cutting through
waves and wind,

but rather
in knowing that
when it is
absolutely still,
the breath
of the whole cosmos
fills its sails,
and guides it
towards
the distant horizon.

strength lies
in knowing
when to be still,
so you are moved.

Blue Pearls of Joy

Joy -
a string
of blue pearls
rests
in the silent depths
of a dark ocean;

suddenly
broken,
scattered,
by a wave
of silence,
they rise....

iridescent
bubbles
effervesce
towards
the ethereal
blue light.
