Everything is Quiet Here

everything is quiet here,
the sun's gone somewhere
for a sleepover,
clouds linger for one last peek,
window-shopping at a world
too busy to be sold into,
the waters are restful,
singing their own lullaby
into the growing night,
the birds are back in their perches
communing over the mundanity
of yet another fulfilling day;

everything is quiet here,
the doorbell's fallen silent
straining its ears to listen
to the breath of all things
animate and inanimate,
the phone lies in a corner,
undisturbed by the desire
to belong somewhere
falling back into the emptiness,
tiny ants scurry along
the safe edges of a wall,
risking their busyness
to feel one another;

everything is quiet here,
where happening melts
into being,
where I am something
that simply lays still
with the hushed air,
not wanting to be anything more;
perhaps that's how we feel
when we die,
when we feel we're a part
of everything's that's here,
in the quiet greatness,
simplicity and totality
of this one precious moment.

When I Rest My Head....

when I rest my head
upon your chest,
I hear a butterfly
flap its wings
in a dance
on a gentle rose,
my being smiles,
and is lulled
into a stillness
that creeps up to me,
to hold me,
warm and close;

when I rest my head
upon your chest,
I nuzzle up to the hair
that holds my breath
and yours
for a moment,
my being sinks,
into the vortex
of emotions,
and I lose myself
only to find myself,
again and again;

when I rest my head
upon your chest,
I feel held within
the fragile, strong walls
of a safe nest
upon a tottering tree,
and I move
with the shifting ground -
rooted, as Life holds
and twirls me around
in a sacred dance
through fire.

when I rest my head
upon your chest,
I feel myself -
a child,
a woman,
and a man,
all at once -
in one breath.

Filigree Leaf

I am but
a tender leaf
fluttering
in the wanton wind
who carries
now
a faint hint
of sweet fragrance
of what was
and what is to come,
and while I dance
in gay abandon,
twirling
in this unsullied moment
with my
sunlight dappled cloak,
joy fills the holes
of my filigree existence.

You came so close

you came so close
to giving voice
to words
swallowed
between
your breaths;
you came so close
to touching
my heart
with yours -
I could hear
the heartbeats;
you came so close
to reaching out
through the veil
to feel
my cheek
against yours;
you came so close,
and yet,
you chose
to draw
yourself away;
to leave
the circle
open
unfinished
with, or
without you.
You came so close
only perhaps
to show me the way.
