In the Dark of the Night

in the dark of the night,
some people get away -
pinched skins
and powdered masks,
resting in the ashes
of long-burnt out sins;

in the dark of the night,
some people are spent
in the raging fire of what is,
stripped of their
insipid flamboyance,
without a fire escape;

in the dark of the night,
some people find
the signposts lost
in the glare of city lights,
guiding and marking
their long way home.

in the dark of the night,
is where I find
what I need to leave behind.

Dancing With My Shadow

the night is lovely
dark and deep,
a solitary pearl
hangs from
among the stars,
the wind steps in softly
to whisper
an old love song,
a bewitched candle
dances
to the strum
of a solo guitar;
I reach out
in a trance,
to take
your trembling hand,
but you are not here
to sing and dance;
and so I look towards
the fading light,
and dance
with my shadow
into the night.

The Milky Way

don't look for that
perfect time and place
to look out into
the Milky Way;
the stars are here
the darkness is here
right here, in us,
why look away?
when you look to the sky
each glorious night,
and wonder where the Light is,
stop for a moment
beneath the heavens,
and know,
the Milky Way
is right here -
where your heart is.

The Queen of the Night

sits on her throne

of grey and silver;

moonstone magic

fills the air, as

darkness melts,

black ice turns silver.
