Fish Out of Water

between
sky
and
water
is a place
I like to be

fringes
are spaces
between
impending struggle
and tarried freedom,

a tight-rope dance,
where a fish
learns to be
not a fish
out of water,
but a bird with gills
who can surf and dive
into sky and sea.

Dancing Cells, Shimmering Stars

and then, Life said to me:
"why do you
first build walls,
and then carve
doors and windows
to open and see?
step out for a moment
in the still of the night
under the shimmering stars,
feel me in your
wild dancing cells,
and you will know
all that you are,
and all that you can
and will ever be."

The Dance of Death

Sometimes
all you can do
is to sit
and watch the moths
do their death dance
around the flame
they think is home;
perhaps that's how
they remember
they are moths,
seeking a light
that was never
their own.

and I danced
so I could close
my wandering eyes
and see the whorls
of the cosmos
exploding inside.

The Way to the Heart

I can see
the flame
flickering
dancing
seducing me
to leap
into the void
that separates
you and me.

But how can I leap,
how can I leave behind
a part of me
that's held me
in its own loving way?
That's built fortresses
and courtyards,
where thoughts
and beliefs
and dreams
can play freely
like little children
in the safety
of their home?

How can I leap
when I want to
teach myself -
that part of me,
to slow down
and dance
with Life,
for that is the way -
the way that I know
to that eternal flame,
that dancing heart?

How Do I Dance?

one
song
one    heart
two       places
two         faces
two      feet
one life
one dance;
how do
 I dance?
in
two places
at once?
but in
knowing
that one
step         leads
to            another,
and              to be
here,      now
is  to
dance.

Waves

walking along the water's edge
where thoughts and emotions
crash as one wave
upon a silent shore,
where I learn the steps
of this timeless dance -
the coming
and the going,
the thrill of waiting
without waiting,
the emptiness
of a yearning -
a curtain drawn back,
slowly revealing
the hidden story
of a painful
parting of ways;
and in that moment
where time and space
stop for a rest
in your majestic form,
I feel you in me -
the last note
of a song I know
in my cells and sinews,
the messenger of silence,
the womb of a new beginning,
the ancient temple
where pilgrims like me
come to rest
on a tireless journey,
to hear a song
that we have forgotten
how to sing.

Dancing With My Shadow

the night is lovely
dark and deep,
a solitary pearl
hangs from
among the stars,
the wind steps in softly
to whisper
an old love song,
a bewitched candle
dances
to the strum
of a solo guitar;
I reach out
in a trance,
to take
your trembling hand,
but you are not here
to sing and dance;
and so I look towards
the fading light,
and dance
with my shadow
into the night.

Shakti

I am my own mother.
I am my own father.
I am my own friend.
I am my own lover.
I move
through
all of creation,
in a joyous dance
of Shakti.

I nourish you
at my breasts.
Even now.
I give you myself,
all of my love.
Again.
And yet again.
There is no
'last drop' left
in a bosom
that holds,
sustains, and
gives life
to the entire cosmos.
Shakti.

I walk through you,
with you,
on every path you take.
I hold your hand.
I carry you
on my swaying hips.
And I will carry you
on my shoulders
on your final journey.
Your dance is my dance.
Your step is my step.
Your breath is my breath.
Shakti.

I have breathed
the fire
of a thousand suns
into your breath.
The fire of love
and passion.
Eternal.
Quietly powerful.
Warmth and Light,
that give life
to weary hearts.
Your breath,
your words,
carry impulses
of creation,
spinning
and resting
in the ether
that binds
all of life
to Me.
Shakti.

I step lightly
and heavily
sometimes,
on the ground
that holds
your restless feet.
Flowers, soft sand
and green velvet.
Sometimes.
Thorns, embers and
a slushy swamp.
Sometimes.
Don't fret.
All is well. Always.
For I am with you.
I am the ground
that you kiss
with your dancing feet.
I am the dancer.
I am the choreographer.
I am the dance.
Shakti.

I hold you close
in my arms,
when you choose
to come home
after a tiring day out -
tired of being yourself,
tired of being caught
in power games;
when tears bathe
your naked eyes
that speak of
feeling unloved
and loneliness,
I make love to you.
like no other,
as you take off
your masks,
your cloches,
one by one,
to bare yourself,
just the way you are,
to Me.
Shakti.

I am the diva
on this exquisite stage.
Where life and love
play their parts.
Your scars
and wounds
are many.
Don't hide them.
Flaunt them
as embellishments
to your soul.
For they speak
of  those times
when I opened
and touched you
with my ruthless love.
You may not have
a flawless sheath,
but you have
my flawless heart,
that knows
only one thing -
how to love.
Ruthless.
Fiery love.
Shakti.

So rest.
Step.
Dance.
Love.
Feel your power.
Become your power.
Shakti.

I Want to Break Free

I want to break free...
to where rolling clouds
do a tap dance
along the edge,
where a restless sky
meets the sleepy sea...

I want to break free...
to where the trees
do the zumba,
as the first winds of morn
brush against
their nimble forms...

I want to break free...
to where the jasmine
quivers and twirls
to waltz with the wind,
holding her tight and close
as he whisks her along.

I want to break free...
to where the starlings gather
in a graceful ballet,
as they glide and stretch
their pointed wings
into the orange sky.

I want to break free...
to where a lonely river
wanders and explodes
into a wild dance,
as she falls into the arms
of a ravishing sea.

I want to break free...
of all the shackles
that bear me down
to this helpless human form.
I want to break free...
to where I can be ME!

Love

love another
like the sun
in its morning hues
and evening blues,
stirring life
into a joyous dance
with
no beginning
or end;
where coming
and going
are celebrated
and mourned,
knowing that
another sun
will rise again
tomorrow.

The Dance

I watch your feet -
as mine follow yours
to an inner rhythm
that only you and I can feel and know;
I watch your hands -
as mine mimic yours
to create invisible mudras
that only you and I can see;
I watch your face -
as mine reflects yours
to unwrap gifts of a brimming heart
that only you and I can touch;
I watch, I hear,
I feel, I yearn,
to embody the Dance,
feel it come alive
inside me again;
I feel the sweet pain
and effervescence
of a fossil self -
being born,
longing to dance,
yet again.

Inside Out

into an infinite space -
my thoughts,
my whole being
spiraling
within;
come to rest
in the silent well;
from a space of love,
embracing all -
without, within;
spinning,
unspinning,
constantly,
is the eternal dance
of the self,
in the well,
within.
